I really want to make resolutions. I also know I won't be able to follow-thru for too long. Never do. I was copying the book of James for my resolution in '10. I was pretty far along...then I lost the little book I was copying it into. Even that was a moderation of my original intention to memorize James...big sigh!!

This year I want to drop cable television at home. The usuals are there too.

1) Read my Bible daily
2) Walk for excercise every day
3) Organize (various parts of the house...changes year to year...generally remains as is throughout the year
4) Some measureable but doomed to failre regimen of really cooking for the family
5) Be more orderly in bookkeeping and have an office that I actually work in and don't just pitch junk into

Stephen said Flex-fit was very crowded...which is not typical last Friday. I know it is the resolution fever.

We'll see...

Today I talked to Owen in Oxford...far away from me and he's having a birthday! How odd, the original birthday required my presence...but oh well, I am passe! My job is done...but he asked for some pictures from our AR trip, which was wonderful, if too short.

My mother has a rocking chair that was hers as a child. Somehow it was out of the picture when all of my children were small, but it's re-found and now is the best picture prop ever! It also has a good story. When my mother was the only child of Paul and Estha Smith ( a long time ago) Grandma Estie spent a day clearing a field of persimmon sprouts and was paid $2.00. She did this job to buy the rocker featured. It crosses my mind at least once a week that I don't measure up to my forbears.

We had some great moments even though the visit lasted less than 24 hours for me. We jumped rope, we ate great food and we laughed during dirty santa!

I still have an IBM Selectric. I have quite a bit of ribbon left for it. Irene used it. I imagine writing a great novel on it...but imagining is about as far as I ever go. The typewriter sets up on a bedroom shelf. I wish I could come up with words too tell about the weekend we just had. It was great. We drove over to Mobile walked over the campus, looked at the new cafeteria. Owen ate in the gym the last two years while the cafeteria was re-done. He took meals in a temporary set-up over the swimmng pool. I read an article in the Spring Hillian paper about the way the floor moved...I never walked through it, but wish I had.

Returning to the Outlaw Center was emotional. We traveled there so many times...I really miss those fun nights. Watch the boys play, grab a meal and then drive home freezing because that's how Stephen stayed awake on those late nights.

Last night I traveled over to Loyola to watch Callie play for the first time. It was such fun, although I had to go on my own. Stephen is taking a computer class. Katy had her own practice.

I really wanted Gabe to go with us, but he's "fussy-face" from 6-8, which was scrimmage time.

I met some more parents and some grandparents...all very likeable. The scrimmage was against Southeastern, which is from Hammond LA.

It is typical day...working around Gabe's interesting comments and adorable faces. I am most proud of this little suit, which I ordered from Amazon.com while we were waiting, although it did come after I knew the Buckaroo was going a boy. The t.v. show rejected us, not too many tears over this. We have 6 units, although all day, when asked, I have mistakenly said 4...I didn't catch my error til now. Studio 4 - Hair Magi

Saturday was a full day of driving Katy to and from appts. We had to go to two nail salons...two homecomings Sat. night on the coast. Belinda Holder at Studio 4 did Katy's hair, as she did for Sweet 16. I liked both dos...can't say which is a favorite. Katy looked very sophisticated. Again Callie was the make-up artist, although at the day's beginning we didn't know she'd come. After taking pictures at M.M.'s house where the final un-veiling of dress and shoes etc. was made. Callie and I drove over to Wal-mart, where we met Gabriel. We then met up with Stephen and Micah for dinner at our favorite Mexican Restaurant in Gulfport, Los Tres Amigos. (we have favorite Mexican restaurants in many towns). I was dead asleep at 9:30pm. Had to set the alarm for 1am to check on the girls...who kept in touch all night by text and were in bed by midnight! No pumpkins! What a great day.

Tuesday - Gabe has sure changed since last Thursday. He swings at the things hanging over his bed. Monday was busy with Coast Electric Trucks working on the new electric and then spending time with Katy. I finished her puzzle. I watched the Republican Presidential Candidates Debates. I can't stand Governor Huntsman and Ron Paul, but I like Herman Cain. I want a "sense of humor" in the White House. I am trying to restore what was on right computer in the front office to the new laptop with carbonite...it is doing something, but I am not sure what! I have had it going all day and 1% is done. Gabe and Vada just left...so I must go too. Home to my baby Kate! I will forever remember this time as nice...to have her all the time.

Time for the alarm, but I'm up. The oatmeal is ready with the raisins steeping separate because Callie is home. I can't have them together with Callie. The girls don't like raisins in anything! Such a mystery.

We had a great evening...Mass at O.L.G., I have not been there in weeks. Steve has been trekking to St. Claire's because they have 4:00 Sat. mass...their new building is beautful, but it's a long way. The last two weeks Callie was home we went as a family. Week 1 we had an priest from India...a stuggle to understand. Week 2 it was a priest from Ireland, but his was a thicker brogue than Father Tracey. Last week we made the trip to Fatima in Biloxi, to catch the sale at Dilliards. Vada and Gabe came and after we ate at Mr. Greek...it was a fun trip. Stephen says the priest at Fatima is Polish...I couldn't tell, he just seemed young. Father Tracey last night was just home from his annual month at home in Ireland...he seemed exhausted. Of course at 5:30 our time...he'd have been in bed in Ireland.

We ate at La Chula's, one of the waiters clapped Steve on the shoulder and said, "hello friend." This is a new restaurant to the Bay, but the waiter was from our old favorite, Los Tres. We had him many times. We are in such a rut...there are 2 Los Tres locations we frequented over the years. At the one in Gulfport last week we arrived in separate cars. Steve said that when he entered alone, the host said, "where's the family?" I liked that Auntie was known at her favorite spots...I guess we are also. Of course when the McNallys walk into a place...people tend to stop and look.

I have not seen Gabe since Thurs...I have a cold and I have given it to him! He has a stuffy nose. Katy is pretty messed up too...hopefully after tonsil removal Thursday she can move toward wellness. I could have kicked Steve he spent the dinner time telling Katy how miserable she would be after surgery. It will be miserable, but she doesn't have to dwell on it now. She wants a small refrigerator in her room, but not one of the two we already have...no, she wants a new one. She claims it will be just an early purchase as she'll need one for college. We all said, "NO!"

The little blow sure put a of sand on the highway...it was worse than a rub board, which is typical of tropical storms and depressions...it was like hard lumpy snow...over the road. We had to drive very slow back from Mass in the Bay on the south side of highway. Callie insisted she stop...she had to frolic. Her hair whipped everywhere...the wind and waves were a sight. I got out to take her picture on her phone, The seabirds were either enjoying the ride on the wind or huddled in groups facing the wind. We saw more pelicans on the sand then I think I ever had on our trips over and back.

We're leaking in the front window at the office. The screen door on the south side was blown and bent up...limbs are down here and there. The only tree that broke fell exactly as it should and can happily stay where it is. The last blow happend a couple of weeks before the boys were back and I had to chop some limbs with an axe to clear the boat storage road. I have the size, but not the strength or stamina for axe work...I was so sore after. No wonder Pres. Reagan used wood chopping for excercise!

I was at work today to learn more about internet advertising and to get assistance on our PCI DSS compliance. I think I am going to take advantage of a Yellow-book package to enhance my website/name seachability. The compliance is an effort to make sure all our customers credit card info. is secure. Both of these things are harder than just taking care of our customers, but well...gotta be done.

The highlight of today was seeing a new picture of THE BUCKAROO! Vada posted it to Micah's web page. Micah has headed over with Vada's new crib sheet delivered today to the office. It seems Gabe needed more clothes and more crib sheets than Vada anticipated. He's just amazing!! I have not seen him since Sunday night.

There has been VBS each night this week (tonight is final night). I have really enjoyed it + I have slept very well!

Auction tomorrow. So...probably going to be busy tomorrow. Kathy is coming to help, so if it works out I'm going to try and talk Steve into taking me to see the last Harry Potter film.!

Ricky's Meat Hook is the business that will be replacing Suzanne's Bakery in our space. Ricky brought his deposit by and he signed the lease...12 months. Such a relief. I hope this works out for us. It will be nice to be next door to a butcher...no more meat in the freezer that is unavailable...I'll just grab some steaks and run home to cook. I envision that we could be the best customers he ever had!

Vada took The Buckaroo out, but did not come by the office. A friend called to extol his adorableness and so I knew he was out and about with his Mother, Aunt Amy and Cousin Jenna. I called pretending I didn't and suggested when she went out for the bug man to spray at the house...she said, "oh we drove by, but we didn't stop." I really just want to show him off to Kathy!

Kathy's grandson is still 3 weeks from due date. Marshall's parents are contemplating an out of state move. Again, I can only be thankful.

The store is papered again! The "for rent" sign really stands out. I received a call from Big Team Real Estate. They are looking for a built out space, which of course we could do, but I'm not sure. They have a large team and we have minimal parking.

Early Mornings are mine. I am not sure what this does for Vada, but it is great for me. I am sitting in the living room ...later this morning than the last few, but it's just the two of us. Granny often quoted to me the following biblical phrase when I would tell her about something unpleasant, "And it came to pass..." So, it's not like I don't know that the children's trips will end (although I plan to enjoy the quiet and low-demand days) and the Buckaroo will arrive...but I remain even at 51, very impatient! Impatient for the baby, for Dad to get here...etc...etc...

Owen might be traveling up to Oxford to check on the condo. I may have to pay Micah's rent while he's gone. His landlord just gave Micah deposit slips...I should do that with tenants!! Nenita (Bakery) has moved out, no more rent checks or free donuts! Big sigh! I needed the rent, probably didn't need the donuts. So I need to work on getting a tenant for A & C retail spaces. The tenants in apt. C are vacating on Commission...that's work getting it ready again. It is the first of the month again...so I'm busy enough and unlike Vada, I am sleeping great!

OLG Seafood Fest in the Bay...Fishing Rodeo at the Long Beach Harbor this weekend so I will not be cooking...we'll be getting great food and seeing neighbors, cake-walking and viewing dead fish! All of my favorite GulfCoast traditions.

Katy will be back; Buckaroo will show himself; Micah and Callie's return will come to pass likely all in that order and through it all I will have distractions galore to keep me from being overly impatient.

8.5 hours in and no sign that Charlie Sr. guess wins...my guess has come and gone. Callie was hoping to see her nephew before she leaves for Panama at 7:30am tomorrow. She's spending the night away...with her crew: Melissa and Stephanie.

Coast Electric sent trimmers today and they've taken the some off the top of the orange tree...which makes it look a little like bozo...def. needs some more trimming. Micah if you read this you know what I'm asking right?

Owen mentioned the military (national guard) yesterday. It took me by surprise. Money is the motivator. I always thought of Micah being more likely to go that way. It is hard to be a broke college student, but I don't want him to ruin his internship chances next summer by having military obligations. They just keep growing up.

Reading two books one in the car, one in the house by Erik Rush. I finished his Negrophilia book and then ordered the other two he'd written from Amazon. The spell check does not like that title. He is a columnist on World Net Daily (wnd.com) and the books have obviously grown from his columns. Annexing Mexico and It's the Devil, Stupid!

We had a text from Katy when she got back to her room after day one of b-ball camp in Louisville. Steve called her and they had a nice chat. I told her about the package that we must pick up at the post office. She's a internet shopper, so there is no telling where it's coming from, although I'd guess Taiwan or Hong Kong and it will be jewelry. As soon as this trip is over...the credit card has got to inside a block of ice.

I am ready for "The Buckaroo" to make his entrance for multiple reasons. I just like babies...grandchildren look fun...I want that relationship with a child who will be thrilled (eventually) to see me. That reason I've had for a long time. The most urgent reason now is I want the birth experience to be behind Vada instead of before her. I liked the challenge of labor and delivery, but I can't speak for how it will be for her.

It occurs to me that these are the last days for our family in it's present form. Gabe will soon be the central person in our gatherings. And if God wills he'll be the first of many new persons swelling around my table at holidays. New daughters/sons in-law and more grandchildren. He'll like/dislike the way we do things...we'll make changes because of him...just like we've changed things because of each of our children...and now our new son-in-law. It was thirty-three years ago this month Stephen and I met and all this got started.

The Holiday Inn where we met is gone, but I sure have strong memories. Now Ms. McNally, who I met that summer is gone. June 5 she died. Two of my girls have her name for a middle name...although it really didn't seem to please her at all. She complained that the middle name is rarely used...she was right about that.

Katy is in Louisville and not too happy about the basketball camp she's attending. Callie and Micah are supposed to be packing for trip to Panama with the church medical/vbs mission team. I think they are most focused on the new Transformers which comes out tonight.

This week Vada's not really up to working...she was in just about 3 hours yesterday and less than that today, but I'm glad we have the situation we do. Imagine...I am working now!

I walked on the Hwy 90 sidewalk with Mary K. today...so beautiful. My...she sets a pace. Saw an old employee...one I had to let go when the business we had at the time closed. More than 20 years ago now, but I don't think she was glad to see me. Oh...back to work.

I knew growing older was a challenge...Mrs. Pierce made us read Cicero...I knew at 17 what was coming. Of course reading about it and lying away with a shoulder ache are a little different. I can see that Cicero is correct...moderate exercise is called for and my mind also needs more stimulation than the mass produced fiction of today. I should follow Auntie's example and re-read the classics...like she said...she'd forgotten them well enough that they were like new. I really delight in discussing a book with Owen after he's read one I suggested. He's so passionate. What a son!

Micah tells me to "chill." It seems that I'm to excited when I call him about this task or that little problem. I want him to get hardware to put together the crib for "The Buckaroo." He says that two months out is too soon...if I need to "chill" he needs to "rev" (as in rev your engine).

Callie has my work keys...I have asked for them. I am about to start nagging...she's willing but never at the moment I ask. She is brilliant, talented and just tired most of the time. I hope she's enjoying all this activity...it is mostly non-stop...well except for the bi-weekly collapse! Her daddy does that too.

Katy and I are so at cross purposes now. It is a sad commentary that she reminds me so of former tormentors from junior high than a loving daughter. It's that time in our life for conflict. I can wait...I know after the journey V and I have taken that this is about "now" not forever. Brilliant children are difficult...I know...I've got 5. Maybe God gave me easy labor because he knew that what was coming would be long, rocky, but worthwhile.

I love being a mother...I am sorry that I've been tired lately and not up to the struggle of parenting at times. This is a recommittment to the task...Micah and Vada going to get me in shape...walking, kayaking and swimming. I feel better...it's a good thing.

Amazing Thunderstorm. I forgot my phone I was so distracted...oh and Vada's heating pad too. She's got a back ache, I expect she'll have some intense back labor when the time comes.
Charlie should be home about 3 days before Sweet 16...my concern is "Can he find a suit in that short time period?"
Katy has an appt. with Belinda Holder (who did Vada's hair for wedding) tomorrow to try some styles for her hair. We have not heard from dress #3....probably won't be ready for this appt., but they assured us they could fix it in time for another try-on.
Callie and Katy will visit a new gym today...hopefully to start working with a new trainer. Callie is thrilled...Katy is not.

Accomplishing one Goal with the Unexpected

I read S. Felter, The "Messies" Manuals several years ago. I have known for many years that for me...messy is who I am. Having a storage facility really is not ideal for a person whose memories are held in objects. I can keep everything...so I can remember people, events, feelings...you name it. Well now my personal storage is going away. The business is listed for sale. The day of reckoning has always been coming...to be honest, I've had to have a few in the past where I just let go of large quantities of the stuff to which I feel attached. I've been praying about letting go for a long time, but now I've got the help of a potential deadline if we actually sell. I'm happy about that...it works like a swift kick in the butt to get you going.

I think that was what was so exhilarating about the hurricane...everything was urgent. I can get "urgent" done, but give me vague deadlined tasks and it may never happen. Things I know about for a long time, always jump up and surprise me. Sweet 16 for instance as been coming for months...and now that it's here, I can't believe it.

Callie's graduation will be the same. Likely "The Buckaroo's" arrival will be the same...

Work today was the WHIRLWIND, but it ended...I've soaked and done some slower work and hope to pick up here in the morning early.

Stephen took me to New Orleans in 1985 and we watched Larry Byrd and Dominic Wilkins with their teams at the time (Boston and Atlanta) put on a show. Mr. Byrd scored his career high...I was there! They auctioned his shoes after the game. Steve would not bid.

Last night Steve to me, Mom and Dad to New Orleans to the UNO Lakefront Arena - one more time. We watched MC with Micah McNally play against UNO. It was fun. It's not a bad drive. Owen and MaryEugenia met us at the game.

Back at it today. The little break-in over the weekend is like a rock in my stomach. I am also pretty angry. I hope that the Harrison County will have success in finding the culprits.

Dec. 30, 2010 - Admitting Mistakes

My "sweet katy."

I will not say opening Again Once More is one of my mistakes...it has accomplished many things, but I have made some mistakes this year.

I have known that my "self-talk" is negative, but given in to the negative strain too often. I did not follow-thru with my resolution last year to memorize James or my adjusted resolution to copy that book by hand. (I've lost the little note-book - when I find it...I'll pick that resolution up.)

I still say things I shouldn't even after many years of practicing talking...so, I think the new tactic will be to practice not talking.

Procrastination still dominates my day...but we'll be addressing that also.

Giving in to the urge to sit! That's a big one...I always feel worse after I've sat for a long time.

I made the decision in part yesterday and the rest of the way in the night when I was not sleeping, I will close Again Once More from Jan-Mar, 2011. The intention is to open Again Once More again, but we'll see... V is going to carry on with some ebay postings. I am going to ask SS to work with her on that creating lots to offer on ebay.

I have concluded that loving to buy things (this is different than shopping) makes me uniquely un-qualified to have a shop. I don't "look only." I go to a store on an odd occaision and I buy...for the thrill of the purchase. It is not a financially wise habit...now I'm into shopping on ebay. I don't understand the people who walk thru and don't buy a thing...I'd probably be better off today if I could grasp that concept.

Here goes the 2011 New Year...only resolutions:

Do one thing at time, start to finish, as much as often as I can remind myself to do it. (an addicted multi-tasker- no that's wrong...an addicted multi-task starter)
I am going to use my day-planner.

It is only Tuesday...but I'm ready for a Saturday afternoon or Sunday afternoon nap. Don't expect one until Jan 8th or 9th. Tonight I need to get a move on wrapping packages. I am not even able to remember who is getting what...I'm likely have covered the basis, but at this moment. I just don't know.

I always feel as if I should reflect and draw a profound conclusion at this time of year. I know I didn't think the daily grind would be this hard at this time in my life. I also thought certain things would be easier, like sending your child to college vs. sending them to kindergarten. Oh for the days of pre-school and elementary sized problems.

I need coffee...be right back...Okay Dunkin' donuts coffee brewing...well...maybe I need a donut, no. I am going to stick with the mixed nuts I have for snack. A customer might perk me up, but none in sight. So coffee and mixed nuts it will be. I had ramein noodles for lunch...always sure to make me sleeply.

One of our alderman, Gary Ponthiex stopped by with the delightful news that the Mayor and Board will be approving our subdivision request. a big step in the direction of selling BRMS. I really need to audit files and get sec. dep. in order with bookkeeping and self-storage software.

We've got much of what we own up for sale. No nibbles on anything but the self-storage.

Thoughts about the baby...it's still just a little to far away to be too high about it or too scared about Vada having to deliver. She is mastering the nausea...Kathy's daughter is now beginning to feel sick. V's due date 7/3 and Jenny's is 8/6. That's really close. Still V is here and C & K will be out of school. Both are capable of so much more around the office that I really don't worry too much.

MaryE is very easy to have around the house. I know it is early, but I'm ready for the next step even if O & M are not. I'm saving for a ring and have been for over a year...just $100./month, which at today's prices mean, I need to save some more. I am glad we had last weekend like a dry run before the holiday...I'm always stressed. I'm a "nervous nellie."

Elephant Restoration

The Beatline Road Mini-Storage Elephants are very important to our brand. We have storage...elephants have trunks. We are not Alabama Fans (okay Miss Sharon is over the top Univ of Alabama fan, but we like her anyway). If we were showing fan support it would have to be a concrete Razorback...yes I'm one of Arkansas transplants...we are everywhere! I'm even happy they beat Miss State last weekend (although my son and husband are not).

But back to our beloved elephants...I found them in the Kiln at a place that is no more. It was a yard art business located at the junction of Hwy s 43 and 603. My Dad picked them up and will complain about them even today if given the chance. They are heavy. I wanted them moved inside for Katrina...Steve said "no." And of course they are still here. Now they need names...thinking...thinking....thinking...

Blogging ---The Point

This has always been a pointless blog...I don't write anything too revealing or anything controversial. I don't honestly think that what I think about important things really matters too much anyway, but lately...I am overcome with the need to shout...THIS IS NUTS!! It occurs to me that my voice is not much but added to the rising voices across the nation of others like me...it might be heard. Even if it's only like the fly that bothered Mr. Obama at a press conference...at least he's distracted for a bit to swat the fly.

I am so blessed to have been brought up in a home where the Bible was taught and to have had the opportunity to learn more at college. It is unfathomable to me that so many people reject it or more likely just have no idea what it is. I watch a film, hear a pundit and I have a compass/measuring thought that corrects the mistaken ideas so often proposed. I guess that that sort of Bible knowledge is becoming rare. Because here we are, as history has shown people often are, at a juncture where ignorance is about to destroy us. "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge." Hosea 4:6.

We love to be entertained and amused. We don't really seek to "know" what is true... Kent Hovind pointed out something I would likely never have noticed -- "muse" that is "to think deeply". When "a" is used it has the affect of nullifying the meaning of what comes after i.e. "moral vs. amoral." So to be amused...suggests no thought. We are so side-tracked and I'm as guilty as anyone with seeking to be amused...to avoid the effort of thinking past my job. It is past time to wake up and be a problem for the socialists/communists who have found their way to the top while we lived our lives in relative ease.

When Elijah whined about being the only one left that worshiped God, God reassured him. I have my reassurance...there are those nagging tea-party groups (I've been to two local rallies myself) who have woken up and are causing irritation to those who'd like to keep us all asleep.

We are treated like cattle in many settings and I believe we deserve to be if we don't come round and start to "muse" more and be "amused" less. I remember even as I enjoyed "Gladiator" wondering if we really are any different than the bored pleasure seeking Romans who allowed their society to disintegrate around them if we enjoy watching simulations of their bloodsport.

I hated the airport experience in '07 and '08 when we traveled abroad...total cattle-like. I've watched my grandfather move cattle through a cattle-shoot to the truck for the sale-barn, it was to similar. And now all this across the nation with TSA and nudie scanners when the powers that be care nothing about the security of the borders, don't want any i.d. at voting places, refuse to allow any security against the illegal invaders of our country across our borders...they "care" about air travel safety. Allow the border wars to spill into our nation nearly unchecked. Well, if they were controlling the borders and the airport security was tight...I'd believe their concern was genuine, but they are not. Maybe they just are testing the cattle's tolerance of authoritarian controls.

It is easy for me not to fly. I will not. I will not be quiet either.

I hope I remember last night a long time. Katy and I headed to the mall about 5 to shop for some clothes for a youth legislature trip. We've done this 3 years prior also, but last night was so fun. "Ryan" in shoes at Dillard was great fun. Katy is an 11 and that is not easy to find. Ryan had a photo of each size 11 shoe they had in stock on his phone. It was so refreshing. Asking for an 11 is a sure way to be rejected. The co-worker pulled out a couple of flats that were so cute, I let Katy have both. It's like I told Ryan (who was very happy with my decision) you don't find them so often that you can say, "no."

Although Callie wasn't with us, she's going on the youth leg. trip also, so I felt obligated to pick up some items for her. I found a skirt, a blouse, a pair of slacks, but in the shoe dept. I found the jewel of the evening. For Callie I found a pair of size 10 Calvin Klein pumps. Ok, Ryan found them. I was looking at some really practical Mary Janes, with padded insides and a 1.5 inch heal. When Ryan approached me and I revealed these were for a daughter, he said with the knowledge of teenage girls that amazed me, "Is she really going to wear a comfort shoe?" I hung my head defeated in my dream quest to dress my 18 year old, as if she was still 18 months old and under my control. Oh for those days! He went for a very pointed toe, but we settled on a rounded toe which was to his delight $20. more than the pointy version. They do have some great material under the ball of the foot. Callie balked because they were $100. shoes, but once she had them on she kept them on while trying on all the outfits.

We made a last dash to J.C. Penney for a quick look at costume jewelry. We left after 40 minutes with a pair of outrageous boot like shoes with a stiletto heel that Katy claims are the most comfortable shoe she's ever worn. Later Callie confirmed this impossible claim. Katy is on a cloud! Size 11 and wide and trendy...a not typical combo.

The girls were still up trying on different combo's and planning who would where what which day...since they can share, mix and match this trip. Katy is a veteran, so she's in the Senate. This is Callie's first year, she's in the house.

We'll try to get some photos added, but wanted to jot all this down before I forgot. I don't write about their respective bills because let's face it, Youth Legislature, to quote their Father, is "all about the wardrobe."

Clinton July 2010 after the All-Star Game

The week went by quickly...I think it was all the trips to and from OLA with forgotten items. I went every day except Thursday, but since I had to run over twice on Monday...it might as well have been daily. When you consider that on some game days we'd be over there in 3 cars...this isn't too bad.

Last night we made a trial run over to Loyola after work to make sure we can realistically attend ball games...I think we can do it. We need to find an alternative route to campus because that time of day there is a real log-jam at the West Bank/Claiborne exit from I-10...These are people exiting the city...I am sure we can find a better way.

I was enthralled by the Halloween decorations on and around St. Charles...the mansions there are beautiful any day of the week, but done up with lights, giant spider webs with spookey grave yard scenes, ghosts etc...I was amazed. I barely put up anything for Christmas.

We walked around the campus, ate at Superior Grill and then attended a Loyola/Faulkner volleyball game. After two games of the match we started home. It's really a little shorter than the drive to and from Spring Hill. Callie hasn't made the call to commit, but she texted the other recruit...I know because I've already heard from that recruits Mom...

We are really excited by the proximity and the opportunity this will afford Callie.

She's taking the ACT tomorrow anyway and an ACT prep course, which can't hurt anything. Katy will be taking it also.

They took basketball team pictures today. We had a crazy search about the house for Katy's which explains my final trek to the Bay today. She could not find it before she left for school.

I'm working with a professional organizer to split my work in prep. for the potential sale of our business. We've got the physical work mostly done and now it is just me and time management. We'll be talking weekly to check out the systems she is helping me implement. Maybe more like a life coach now, but it all pertains to organizing me.

Universal July 2010

The part of summer I've been dreading is over...well it will be when Katy makes it home from Baton Rouge LA later today. We've gotten through the AAU bball season and the last big tournaments. It's a big chapter closed. The last tournament this weekend was in New Orleans. I'm glad it was close. The drive daily was long, but it is good to sleep at home.

Callie's basketball dreams will be realized. She, baring the unforseen injury, ought to be playing at college after high school. We had the delight over the last few weeks of being a part of her recruitment to two very impressive schools. I'm glad I'm not picking. I dreamed of Harding University for all my children, and I'm holding out hope, but it really seems like that schools are more likely to recruit in their general vicinity. At least this is our experience.

Owen's finished...and while it was not Harding...he has an education and a great opportunity to continue his education.

Micah's at a fantastic school...and we are thrilled with his attitude, friends and prospects. It was really basketball that opened that door to a school that is not Harding.

Our fingers are still crossed...prayers are still made, but I'm not going to be to surprised if Harding rejects us again. I never saw Faulkner's coach...I guess if Loyola is her choice, he'll get to see her play against tougher competition, which is what he wanted to see. A church of Christ school was my prayer, but God's never let me down. His choices are always better in the end.

We enjoyed Universal after a false start. The new Harry Potter exhibit was confusing. We finally made it in and enjoyed the view and the butterbeer.

Basketball-drive-Basketball

July 10- Red Letter Day...great fun. We saw Callie play ball in the MC Gym, where we usually watch her play volleyball and (if all goes well with season) we hope to see Callie and Katy play for Crescents this October 9, 2010. We also were blessed to spend time with Mom and Dad + Allen, Kristy and John Michael! On top of this...the South Girls beat the North Girls...and while we didn't get to stay for the boys game...we heard via facebook post that it was a sweep for the South!

After the game...C & K made us wait a while so Steve and I walked around the campus at MC...it is beautiful....

We were able to walk into one esp. beautiful building, but I no longer remember the name...

When the girls were finally done with their visiting we hit the road for Orlando...first game Sunday 10am. We were able to make it to Ocala and actually arrived just a few minutes behind the team...so the girls are in the traditional team photo in front of the ESPN Wide World of Sports Center...Put game 1 in win colum...Next game going to be tough at 8 tonight. Girls are "resting at the pool." Steve's asleep in the room...and well I guess you know what I'm doing...

July...AAU...Orlando...Likely for the Last Time

I checked and I made two posts last year related to our trip to Orlando for AAU. This year we're going down in an overnight rush there and back. Last year we leisurely went down with one overnight stop and another night in Orlando before our first game. We'll be lucky to make the first game this year because Callie has a Sat. game in Clinton before we can leave.

This is Callie's last for sure and Katy's not as keen for bball as she is for vball. I'm not sure I can push her when its all so hard when the child involved is enthusiastic. There's so much more she can do academically and to improve the vball play. She also can work on her shot and discus work.

I'm waiting on the car to get out of the shop to start out-fitting it to accomodate and overnight drive. Callie and Katy will need to really sleep, so I ordered some camp mats and a rain-proof bag for luggage on top.

THURSDAY - again but not real quiet!

Time has really flown since last Thursday. Stephen and I took a trip mostly for fun last Friday and were gone until Sunday afternoon. We headed to Atlanta and indulged ourselves with stops along the way up and back. We ate bar-be-que in Greenville Alabama up and back.

The first place "The Smoke House" we'd visited on a prior trip through. It's got lots of atmosphere and Univ. of Alabama stuff...+ loads of old fashion implements hanging everywhere. This was actually a third stop and I believe that the law of diminishing returns kept us from enjoying it as much as our first trip. They also sell fried chicken displayed in a glass case with hot lights...Steve said it's great!

We hit a big "antique" flea market. I tried a new technique...I took pictures of the interesting stuff...bought absolutely nothing!!

The week since has been hectic. Vada's really catching onto the job. I have left her several times. Most recently yesterday, I took off at 1:00pm so I could take the girls to New Orleans to play some summer ball with Benjamin Franklin High School Summer Team. It was so much fun. Ben Franklin is situated near UNO and then we drove over to Cabrini High School and watched several of the girls' AAU teammates play. Owen came along, although he was not thrilled. Stephen insisted he come for our safety. We finished the evening by strolling along the edge of the French Quarter and eating some beneights at Cafe du Monde. We even saw a rat out for an evening scamper along the river walk. Coincidentally Vada saw a mouse in her apartment last night. She called me about it...I am the landlord. I offered the loan of my cat. She's more afraid of damage to her furniture.

Monday we had loads of move-outs. Micah is working every day 12 hours a day...so the grass needs cutting. Steve's missed cleaning vacated units, so this weekend there will be large number to clearn, but the girls play ball in Hattiesburg with OLA so I know we'll want to be with them.

I went to the beach yesterday morning and walked...for no particular reason. The only "trash" I saw was normal trash...driftwood and a small dead crab. I watched a hermit crab navigate the shallows...tried to take it's picture, but it was too cloudy to see it. The shrimpers are out...the paper this morning said they pulled 13lbs of oil balls off the Harrison Cty beaches, but I neither saw it nor smelled it. So we're still waiting for the disaster. Callie keeps heading out to fish...just in case they close the waters in the sound. She gigged her first flounder this week. In her excitement she grabbed another fisherman's homemade nail and stick gig and left her borrowed really nice gig! Oh well...she got the fish!

Blissfully Slow Thursday-Odd Pictures

Callie's ankle is good...Katy's is rolled now...so she has the brace on her ankle. Dr. Terrell told us Callie's ankle would work with the brace and he was right. The girls came in from Perk late afternoon yesterday. I saw them only briefly because as soon as I came home from work with the car keys they needed...they were gone!! Friends to see -- fast food to eat! Of course they are still asleep this morning.

Owen spent yesterday in Mobile...arranging for the final transcripts to be sent to Ole Miss, seeing the Doctor for follow-up on his hand (he's still going to be in the brace a while) and finally seeing school friends still in Mobile. He heard from someone about continuing to play ball, but the hand is an impediment...

Two of Micah's MC buddies are down...they are heading up to get some oil clean-up work today...

One customer was in today and has his boat (commercial fisherman) in the lottery...so far he hasn't been picked, but has worked as deckhand on someone else's boat. The full-time fisherman really resent the pleasure boaters who have other employment being in the lottery too. They're getting big bucks to be out less than 8 hours a day, fuel and repairs paid, deck hands paid too...its all crazy. I don't believe even an oil company can have that much money. Over 50 days now and I still haven't seen any oil. The barrier islands and the flow of the rivers emptying into the Gulf are protecting MS shores...

Vada spent last night at Gulf Coast Bible Camp...said it was great to see old friends. I think she missed a call from Charlie...reception has always been awful out there. She's back I think, but she's not coming in today, although she said she bring me lunch.

I didn't talk to Mom and Dad this morning...

Vada finished her first full week...wow my office looks so much better. She's definitely got a better eye for arrangement than I do. She's able to talk to Charle most days...I think they had a 3-day stretch when he was unable to call. 3 weeks done 7 to go.

The consignment shop closed. They are not completely out, but we should have the space to work on by the end of this week. I would love to start a used book store/coffee shop, but I realize we don't have the time or disposable income to start something now.

Micah has an opportunity to work onshore in the oil spill clean-up. Steve was adamently opposed to him working on a boat laying boom, but he said he could try for this job. Micah's excited about working outside the family. I believe it will be good for him.

Owen possibly has a room-mate for school this fall. I will reconnect with the realtor this week to see about getting a place for them. The places in our price range only have one bath...my wish list has a 2-bath condo on it. O signed up for a week-long law school prep course in Austin later this month.

Callie and Katy are up at Perkingston for the first team camp with OLA. They come home and will travel to Hammond on Friday to play with Smith's (AAU). There's not much lay-about time for them. We're watching for the summer reading list.

Charlie sent beautiful flowers. Vada had spent part of Saturday with Miss Olive going to see Jenna's dance recital. Vada reported that Jenna was really very good. Miss Olive had delivered the flowers.

Sunday we went to services together...V, O, C and me. After lunch we ordered pizza, napped and then V invited me to the beach with her and Bubba. We

went to Henderson Pt...you can see the railroad bridge across the bay behind us. Bubba had a great time...we did too. Vada took two tennis balls, but B fell in love with a stick...

Wednesday - Working for Myself

I wonder if I'm the best supervisor for me. I am the only supervisor I've got...well God's surely watching, but he's not making in overt comments. I get the occasional thought/conscience twinge that lets me know that His word is still written on my heart, but some things are a matter entirely of my choice. Do I work on this or that? Do I stack or do I file? Well I stack---sometimes I box. I love Tuesday Mornings decorative paper boxes!

That stack of stuff on the desk...Sharon didn't have that. Of course she had to contend with my stack, but then it didn't include any of the things she handled.

Tomorrow I have got to find the items I've started organizing for '09 taxes. Yes, I've not turned those in yet. I got the kids, the businesses, but not us still. Sharon's retirement has given me excellent - almost completely legitimate excuses.

We'll see how I do...I may have put a note in my personnel file about this failure to complete this task in a timely way. Vada may have some comments that will make me more accountable...nothing like the observations of a child to make you sit up and take notice of your failings. Tomorrow will be day 1 of our work adventure!! Best wishes to me.

Hair Hair Everywhere Hair

Yesterday when Micah and I were together...he said, "Mom, do you realize people stare at us because of our hair." It could also be that we are very tall, but giving his statement credit...we have some pretty shocking hair. It's so wildly curlie...I rarely do anything to mine anymore...well, I wash it and comb it straight back then leave...it dries and how it looks is...how it looks. Owen does more to his, but then his hair is longer than mine!

O says strangers (women) want to touch his hair...a customer said he recently saw one of my sons in my car and almost said something to them in the way he typically teases me...generally a little outrageously and said he barely caught himself when he discovered that it was not me, but obviously one of my sons. It was the hair he said...I include these two pictures for evidence. Micah in a group of his peers has stand-out hair...and the group picture shows that the McNallys have locks!! Vada's hair is artificially subdued!

Title Dilemma - Monday

Monday, Monday...can't face that day! I generally have difficult Mondays and I thought today would be like that, but actually today was better than great, so maybe this should be, Come Monday, it'll be alright. Micah and Owen were around and helpful. I had lunch with Micah, because Owen had a luncheon scheduled with two men from the congregation. The minister, Mark Hodges and a young man not too long out of law school named Matt. He gave O some pointers and a book to guide him through law school, so even though I've never met him I owe him!

The neat part was they had lunch at Juan's Tequila Sunrise, which is the spot Micah and I chose also. They finished about the time we started...so O sat with us on the balcony overlooking the Long Beach Harbor. Some people might have thought it was too hot, but actually the only problem was the music was too loud. I had a fabulous Burrito Frito...which was much better than it sounds.

Our waitress was a long time acquaintance...Heather Cohen. She was a very good dancer with Diane Desporte School of Dance and she graduated from LB High in 06 with Big O. She even tried to teach O to dance, which makes her okay in my book! It was great fun to re-connect...her mom was someone I always enjoyed chatting with when we crossed paths and her Dad, a podiatrist, once cured me of incredible foot pain just after Micah was born...being able to cross the room quickly was very important in those days...with a newborn, 2 yo Owen and 4.5 year old Vada to chase after. Mom and Dad were not here yet...so I relied upon myself.

I finally hung the drapes in the vacant apartment tonight. I confess I ruined them. Trying to be cheap, I washed them myself instead of paying the exorbitant fee the cleaners charge. They don't even press in the pleats anymore...and they have a problem not ruining the insulated backing. Well, I didn't press the pleats and I also ruined the insulated backing, but I didn't charge myself a dime. The couple who are considering the apartment stated that they preferred a different window covering...which is a good thing. I hung them just so they'd have privacy while they acquired the window treatment they prefer. I think I need to get some of the more drape rods. The ones that use a pocket and are manually pulled open. These drapery pulley rods are hard to manage and the insulated drapes that I favored all these years are harder to come by.

O was playing music in the apartment tonight. He's trying to master "Cool Water." Of course Papa taught it to him. He's off to some place where a group of LB boys play music. Micah headed off to join him just a bit ago...It's great what Dad does with the kids...they love it!

Lonely Tuesday Afternoon

The lien notices are ready to mail...only 9 units delinquent enough for a June 17, 2010 Auction. Hopefully they'll all pay and I can cancel. I have 9 still on for Thursday's Auction this week.

The fun this week has been condo shopping in Oxford. I am working with a Realtor there and a Banker here. We're discussing using something here for collateral to speed up the process. I think small and close to campus will the best bet...he needs a quiet hovel. My favorite so far is 2216 Church Street (3 available). Built in the 70's..they have everything he'd need. The one I'm repeatedly drawn to is on 570 Hathorn...really small 391sq ft. and detached.

I think we'd all enjoy the second bedroom for visiting...O will really be close to Uncle Allen...no telling what kind of fun those two can have with Sardis somewhat close to both of them. O and C love to fish and Allen once showed me his favorite fishing spots when we all met at Sardis...I can't even remember the year now. I haven't a clue what kind of money law school will be...guess O will have to check into this though. He's emancipated, claiming himself as of 2009.

This is fun...I hope we can swing it! We'll have to become Ole Miss fans now.

Calmness after Madness

I've been in the office most of the week. Kathy took Monday afternoon for a break, but I've closed every day. This is an eye opener. The 4th and 5th were the busiest, but manageable. The customers really do come in clumps...not steady manageable streams. We have some very interesting customers. Sharon was right, this is the best part...getting acquainted with the people who support the business.

Mom and Dad made it even more bearable today. Mom made delicious breakfast and brought a sub for me. She and Dad are over at my house now making a fish fry for supper.

Owen heard from Ole Miss Law School...YEE HAW...they took him. Now he has to decide between Ole Miss and MS College. Both have advantages. Micah's close to MS College Law School (20 minutes) and they could possibly share living quarters...plus MC is in downtown Jackson...a great plus for networking, interning and the opportunity to be near the State Capital. Ole Miss is prestigous and less expensive.

Vada just came in and booked a night at a fancy place near the Quarter in NO for Charlie's last night before catching the plane out for his summer trip. So sad...he misses the first anniversary, but at least technology makes communication much easier. They may be able to "skype?" this time. Owen and Micah are up on this and want to set it up for us with Mom and Dad too. I don't know. I'm pretty comfortable with phones...not sure I need the face-to-face.

Micah brought a Pirate's Cove roast beef po' boy for me. Now that is true love. He and David went out on Kayak, but said they saw no evidence of oil spill...they didn't smell it either. Some people have been claiming to smell it, but I haven't. Katy said she saw 4 dead sting rays on the beach yesterday in Bay. We had a repairman in yesterday who said he'd be fishing all night the last two nights before they close the waters to all fishing. I hope shrimp don't go sky high...I need my gumbo, when I need my gumbo...may have to switch to chicken.

Closing down Tuesday and thinking about Nevada Chapman

Second Tuesday on my own. It was better with the phones and computers working all day. We did have a couple of move-outs and really only one inquiry call. The deploying C.B. who came by yesterday didn't make it back to rent. Oh well, maybe Saturday.

Tonight we have the OLA basketball banquet. I hope to snap a few pictures. Above is the picture from the ourladyacademy.com website. It is a good website...kept up-to-date and has many pictures of activities.

Nevada Chapman finished his race yesterday. It's been a really sad 24 hours and I'm just a member from the congregation where he attended. I can only imagine his families' grief. I first met a Chapman at Harding in Patti Cobb...that was Lisa. Then we started attending Long Beach church of Christ and met Brenda and Nevada. Kelly (another daughter) and Brian Case moved down from Bald Knob AR bringing Nathan, a young man who is dear to Owen and Micah. They've had some fun and not so fun times together. As I recall Micah was driving the F150 while Nathan mud-skiied behind it. Not so brilliant...Nathan broke his leg...the Chapmans and the Cases still speak to us...which tells they are a remarkable family. When Vada graduated from Harding, Kelly who had worked with Vada on Panama mission trips as well as from our home congregation vouched for her at the school she taught at in Bay St. Louis, MS. She encouraged and mentored her through these 3 years...she tried to introduce Vada to one Charlie Buckley, but it didn't work out that time. Later Charlie and Vada met on Sunday morning at church and well, as the say the rest is history. Nevada Chapman handed me innummerable bulletins on Sunday mornings in the foyer before worship. He prounounced my name like my daddy does, he told fascinating stories and he complimented my children. He knew the Bible...his comments in class mattered...yeah...I'm going miss him! On Vada's wedding day he announced to me and the family Vada was as pretty on the inside as the outside. I don't want to forget him.

Belinda Tipton posted on facebook that Nevada was probably being hugged by Miss Thelma, Miss Charlene, Wilburt and Brenda Walker...I don't doubt it. I don't doubt it at all! Our church family is relocating one at a time.

Monday-Invoices-Payroll-expecting Micah HOME

Micah and Dad...about the time Micah graduated...I include this because I like looking at the two of them together!!

I only have one employee so its not a big deal, but we make the payroll then do direct deposit. I've done it twice now and I feel triumphant!

I managed to print and mail all our invoices...remains to be seen if they were done correctly...customers who find mistakes will clue me in to that.

Callie and Katy are going to have at least two weeks off basketball in order to do track. District (rained out last Friday) will be made up this week, Regionals on Saturday...somewhere else and then South State next Saturday while O gets a diplomma!

Micah will be moving home early next week! I am so excited. Our SiteLink software has added online tutorials for the program...so the boys are about to get some useful training...real world training then when they meet the most interesting customers in the world...ie the tenants at Beatline Road Mini-Storage, LLC.

O's also going to take over some of the extraneous rentals and they both are going to make cold call visits to apartments complexes and local real estate businesses for me...they are so much better looing than I am.

I need to order some Land's End polos to make them look more professional. Going to jump on that NOW!!

Waiting on the painter...then off to work...

Friday was a great day. I was loose and able to run the roads a bit. I made it by Sam's for my tank of gas and our chocolate muffins. I also made a major change in our pattern of purhcasing...I picked Gala apples not Red Delicious. So far no rumbling at the house about it, but Katy's still in Jackson and Callie is only partially awake this morning.

Callie's prom dress is hanging in her room...sleeveless, pink with gold sparkles...very pretty. It was a last minute purchase.

I got the word the Consignment shop will close, but I've an appt. to show the center retail space. Maybe I'll still have one tenant after all.

O's gotten one rejection from a law school and one request for more info. He's got an invite to a camp to be looked at for overseas play...so he's got lots of opportunity ahead. Looks like M, O, and C can train together this summer.

Monday I meet with a Door King rep about upgrading our Gate operators...I want to take advantage of all our technology. If we can upgrade and link the self-storage software with the gate operating software we can controll the access of delinquent customers automatically...ie don't pay, you can't enter...pay, even online and the system responds and reactivates your gate card/code.

O's going to take over our other summer project of upgrading the Climate Controlled building doors on the 5 oldest buildings. So happy...he's also got plans for improving the web site...such a relief...he's actually had classes...all I have is a "hardknockU" class in business.

Maybe I have a tenant for the apt. that we've been working on...I expected to hear from her on Friday, but did not...so we'll see.

Katy's been at youth legislature in Jackson since Wed...and I expect her to come in exhausted and very cross tonight...doubt they've slept much. 4 girls to a room in a hotel full of many high schoool students pretending to be congressman...no we'll have some interesting times tomorrow as Sen. McNally returns to the humble plain of reality. They have pages that carry their messages...I can just imagine the content of those messages back and forth between 15 year olds! She had some great clothes though...she always manages to weedle me into getting new "professional" clothes. She just looks so pretty in that stuff in the dressing room...I can't say no!

A Good Read

Callie asked me last night to give her a list of books she should read before college. I still have my world history list of reading requirements from Mrs. Pierce at Northeast High School. It's in that old blue stenograph ink. That smell...it's school. I haven't smelled it since I was a teacher at Cabot Middle School. I'm going to press her to read Costain, Henty and probably just for funnzies, Mary Stewart's Merlin Triology. I doubt she's actually read Tolkien...I think I read her the Hobbit, but I really don't remember now.

I think I've got a good book started...grabbed from the first page. Prayers for Sale by Sandra Dallas. It is set in the depression and is the story of an older and younger woman's friendship. A few years ago I read a book, Enemy Women, do not recall author, that gave me the same kind of pricking sensation that says, this is a good compelling read. That one was a bitter sweet story, and I'd not read it again, but I think the author managed to tell a story about the period with characters who were realistically reacting with a mindset of the day. I'm a little tired of stories where the characters some how have the anachronistic world view of a person from the future...it's annoying.

Today is basketball again. Yesterday, Callie played not up to par. Coach was annoyed, but he's generally not to verbally hard on her. He's really tough on the girls he's coached longer and esp. his daughter. Typical...Steve would be the same way. Coach cut her slack for missing so many shots because she's throwing shot in track. She was at an all-day meet at USM-Hattiesburg on Friday...took 4th of 22 participants in shot and 6 in disk. Not bad for someone who started about 6 weeks ago. Katy was supposed to have gone, but she didn't realize it. The OLA team only took selected players. Quite an honor...sorry she missed it.

Steve and Katy are off to Mass. Callie and I will go to LB cofC and then we head to Gelsmar LA to Dutchtown High School for one game. This is a long ways away...Must sign off and map quest.

Coincidentally, I wrote one of my first blogs from a hotel when Katy was playing with Slidell Magic in Super Regionals at this very location...back in 08...I thought the drive over was lovely...lots of bridges over bayous...actually plan to enjoy the drive.

Delancey Dilemma

My dog or my son. Owen wants to live in the house. Delancey really sets off his allergies. So what's a mother to do! Poor Delance...may have to move outside. We have the office option for o, but he's right the food is here!

Callie made the SunHerald Monday. The above is the picture used. I need to go and grab the group shot, but yesterday I didn't think of it, getting only her single photo. Along with the photo of Hayleigh Arcement. The Arcements are a family we've known since O & M first went to Ladner's basketball camp at SSC. Hayleigh and Callie were pre-schoolers playing on the side. They've played AAU together. Hayleigh's mom, Natalie is a true expert when it comes to being a basketball Mom. I consult with her often. We also share foot problems. We both suffered with plantar's facititis together for a while...its really bonding to travel to ball games and be able to commiserate together about sore feet.

Today is organize for taxes day...no excuses---I cannot be distracted from this task. So I'm off to get my bangs from my eyes (hair is in its that in-between stage but I am toying with the idea of growing it out again...doesn't look as good, but I need long hair if I'm going to become the earthy/hippie like grandmotherly type - you know Colleen Dewhurst-full figured long single braid of gray hair).

So here I go!

Hump Day

The real "Sarah" in Kendall Hall 1979/1980. Mr. Urich inspired me that year! I rented a storage unit to another Urich, claimed to be a cousin...likely story. Absolutely no resemblance...+ he stiffed me in the end.

When the weeks go so fast, hump day doesn't mean as much as it did when Mom would tell us we were halfway to the weekend. Since we work weekends it really doesn't mean much anymore...still it does mean mid-week Bible Study. So in this way it's special.

I swung by the apt. after going to mid-week devotional with the LB c of Christ. It's all nitty-gritty stuff now. The tub I didn't replace is going to require major elbow grease and new spigot knobs...I couldn't get them off tonight, so I'll need to take a something to pry the hot and cold tabs off the knobs to remove them. I'll try to clean the soap scum before replacing. I need light bulbs, replacement light globes, switch and socket face plates and one drip pan. I don't spend 1/2 day on drip pans anymore! I've put the sign up because I'm not humiliated to have someone see it at least and ask $950 or $1000.00...just hope I can get it in this terrible economy.

I redid the financial statement the bank requires annually...they say its new gov't regulations, because we pay the note on time. For the second year in a row storage income is down and apartment rental was practically 1/2 what 08 was and here I am spending that much on an apt.

We should sell the house and move in to the apt. We don't need this big house anymore...unless...we join the new/old trend of multiple generations in the one house. I can envision splitting the main part into two units. Making a garage on the west side with a small kitchen and laundry room. The only thing I can't imagine is Stephen and another adult male (esp. one of his sons). It would be bull on bull action likely.

O called before 8am today...total shock. It's his spring break. He said he had an unsolicited email from some law school in Sacramento. He said he thought it was too far from his high school buddy who lives in LA now. I indignantly reminded him that his real concern should be the distance from me. He then mentioned the distance from M.E. It's official I'm practically obsolete...

A Spontaneous Trip to a Photographer---and it's one of my favorites even though the girls had been in the car a long time and didn't "dress" for the picture. I love it!!

It really wasn't that bad of a Monday...but I had a deluge of phone calls...mostly all good. But when one comes, before the first is finished it makes me stress. I heard from the carpenter...he's in IL with my spare key. But he's coming back and he intends to help with the floor wierdness in bedroom 3.

The plumber's wife called to say the bill is ready and wanted to know if I wanted to have it faxed or mailed...duh? I don't want to see that for as long as possible. I tried to contact the painter. I need some additional help, but his number's not working.

I was to have a doctor's appt, not really sick, just trying to get a doctor, but guess what the doctor was sick today! I was supposed to go to Ms. Yvette for more video work, but she had to reschedule too. So I spend this afternoon squinting at the screen trying to look for clips on the camera from the two games I saw Saturday. Of course I missed the best games on Sunday when they played SME (South Mississippi Elite) a really good team. They won the tournament, in spite of losing the first game in pool play to the New Orleans Pumas. They beat the one Atlanta Attack in the second game I saw. I know they beat the Bama Storm for the final game...they'd actually met this team the previous weekend. Oh Callie said they played a different Atlanta Attack team in the first game on Sunday.

So today was sort of a bust. I thought about, but didn't place the apt. ad, I did send emails to coaches at Lipscomb, Belhaven, William Carey, Loyola and Samford using collegescoachesonline.com. I was about to send one to Southeastern La, but i didn't...so we'll see if we get any nibbles on that. She recieved a letter from St. Thomas University in Miami...she must be on a Catholic School list somewhere...we here from lots of those, but sadly only for academics!

Callie got a letter from Southern, but we figure it was a generic letter sent to all the state's Jr. All-Stars inviting them the Coach's elite camp. Callie broke her leg at the Southern Camp in 2005...Vada had to carry her up the steps of Reed Green, which is saying something...its a bowl and the steps up from the floor are many! I know that shouldn't be a reason to discount a school, but well...we may be a little superstitious.

I need to head down to the apt now and put on some socket faces! I found a box of new ones in the pantry at the office. I think if I knew what leftovers I've stashed from various projects I could do a remodel with practically no materials purchased. I have a unit with sheetrock and insulation left over from the Retail Building...

Which makes me think I've been putting off working in that B Unit for months...maybe that's why no one rents it...the dirt!

I did a walk-thru this am of the apartment. Plumbers and carpenter are done. I like so much of it, but there are still some problems. The painter is coming back one more time...makes sense that because the bi-folds were off the hinges...he wasn't able to paint the part of the fold that exposes when the doors open. Steve wants to putty and paint the baseboards, but they need caulking too and I think we should let Ronnie D., the painter handle that. I'll call him today...the carpenter must still have the key. I need to put new face plates on outlets and switches and clean...

That floor in the back bedroom is still not right...at lease we have water and lights for working.

I am trying to brainstorm about the middle retail space that has been vacant now for 7 months. The two current tenants were planning to split the space in a sort of combo allowing customers to walk thru the building from one unit to the other...then the economy happened and they backed away. We've talked about trying a used book store and coffee/tea shop, but all the McNally men think this is STUPID IDEA. Vada really has too good of a job with (back to the same prob.) the economy.

Well like Steve said..."whatever's going to happen is going to happen." He may have heard that from somewhere else...in the meantime:

I'm waking the sleeping beauties so we can try to make tip-off in Hattiesburg today. Katy has a dance tonight...so its going to be rush up and rush back...then dance her feet off, then clean-up (her class is hostin) then sleep then rush back to Hattiesburg in the am for more bball fun with Smith's of Slidell team. Today I emailed the insurance that jettisoned Owen in December (30 days past 22nd birthday) to check to see if the new legislation signed into law really would restore him to our policy. No word yet. We learned after the fact that there is a continuation that can be purchased for an additional fee to give him 3 years with his own policy...but its like a house payment. I found a separate policy for $136/month with a $5000.00 deductible. Oh well... I have no illusions we're all toast soon anyway. He's paid 1000.00 for a school policy that we have until graduation may 8.

I used to listen to political news and read blogs with interest and enthusiasm for the process, but now its just self-defense...if that's possible. Will this country be a country when my children's children are my age...not much hope. Isn't that odd, Mr. Obama campaign rhetoric promised "hope and change." He is making good on the change, but I believe Mr. Limbaugh is correct...Mr. Obama will bring us shared misery...and it will creep to many parts of the globe when we are no longer a super power and the countries we protect have to spend on defense...their social programs that look so good to so many here will run shorter than they are short now of funding.

May God have mercy on us all.

Me and My Sweetie

This morning my sweetie, who usually brings me green tea, added a surprise. I got pizza! My favorite cold pizza from my favorite pizza place, Dominos... Locally Dominos, owned by RPM Pizza, is a great community supporter...so I support them whenever I can. Even now they are processing an ad for Callie's program (Junior MS All-Star Game July 10, 2010). Our fab., State Farm Agent, Fred Walker, bought an ad, Callie's Coach Donna Spiers, Long Beach Church of Christ and of course Beatline Rd. Mini-Storage...

I filled my wait time while Katy practiced with AAU basketball team in Slidell shopping at Academy and Target. I really had too much fun as my credit card statement will attest. Katy doesn't like me to hang around and watch, but it would surely save money. We finally got home at 9:15pm. AAU really gives us great shopping opportunities...tomorrow we'll get to go to Hudson's in Hattiesburg...Steve's favorite store and we may get to eat at our favorite rest., Chesterfields.

Today I must conquer the paper...it's Owen information to be organized for our accountant, Ms. Dardar. I know she's past ready. It's not complicated, but I procrastinate.

It's a secret, but O & M are heading to AR to visit Mom and Dad. O starts Spring Break today.

My goal this weekend is to get some great footage of Callie for the highlight video. I return to Ms. Richards house Monday to continue working on it...I am so excited and annoyed by this project. It is tedious to review and clip...and I have to see my atrocious camera skills all over again. I see things I'd like to clip for Katy's future film, but that will be for another day...
