Tuesday March 20, 2012

Self-Storage is a very interesting business...a good thing I think so too, because I've been at it for almost 27 years.  I was 8.5 months pregnant when we opened on September 1, 1985.  I gave birth 17 days later...now I'm a grandma, still doing the same things for Beatline Road Mini-Storage.  Vada came to work with us back then, and she's still here and she's bringing along Gabe.  He's asleep in the back.  How's that for continuity.

Owen called today and we also managed a messaging exchanged on facebook.  We've only done that one other time on this trip.  He still doesn't know what he's doing next.

Micah was briefly through last night and he called to say he made it back to school and class okay.  Bubba Jr. successfully rode back up in the bed of the truck.

Katy signed up to take the ACT again and I'm so proud.  She wants to beat Vada...a noble if very lofty goal.

Callie messaged me briefly, but the connection cut, so I didn't feel like we finished communicating.  I think I intuited that she can take the courses she needs from USM-Gulf Park.  This would mean a summer at home for her.

We are going back to LA for AAU...I am very excited.  I just feel more at ease over there after 3 years.

Gabe's place

My baby and Vada's baby playing together in the baby pen!!
Gabe had a hugely full diaper -  spilled up the back to his neck...wond up in the sink...poor Vada!  I helped by taking pictures, fetching the dirty wipes to the trash and rinsing out all of his clothes!!

We put Gabe in the high chair (my idea0.  Vada gave him some puffs.  He really enjoyed it.  Vada gave him some keys and he pounded the tray and many puffs flew off the tray.  Yesterday after a few days had gone by and we'd had a some trouble wth the printer (located directly in front of the high chair). We were exploring the depths of the printer to figure out why the paper was feeding badly.  We messed up some checks before we discovered a puff blocking the path of the paper!

Morning 2.9.12

This morning I have jumpted on my work...NOT!  I went through pictures from last nights game and some from this morning. The first game I saw in UNO Lakefront Arena was Atl. Hawks and Celtics...Vada was there inutero!  Mr. L. Byrd had a record setting game, but I've enjoyed Micah and Callie's games there more.

Owen had a game last night, but my camera and I missed it. Callie  took me to a great spot last night,  "Dat Dog" on Freret St.  We had Guiness Dogs with soda.  They weredelicious and pretty.  My taste buds loved it, but my brain doesn't have the words to describe my delight.  datdognola.com  --- of course they have a web site.

Sunday 6:54am

No pictures today, just wanted to set down a few thoughts about yesterday.  It was a great day.

I watched one basketball game at the LB Rec. Ctr. on Daughtery.  Why when all my children are passed the age do they build that thing 2 minutes from my house?

I cleaned one storage unit for a customer who needed it asap.  Poor Stephen was sick with a cold (probably caught it from me) and could not do his usual game day Saturday routine:  get up at 6 - clean units until 11:55 - shower and hit the road for a ball game somewhere at 2pm.

Gabe came to visit so his Mama could go the track surrounding the LB Rec. Ctr. and ride her bike 3 miles.  (I have no excuse for not doing the same sometimes since as I previously mentioned it is 2 minutes from the house).  Gabe was fun, but uninterested in listening to Micah's game on the hall computer or reading the DakStats of Callie's game.  There was a one hour overlap, but I multi-tasked with Gabe and the two games.

Vada then dressed at our house for her "date" night with her 2 guys:  Charlie and Gabe.  I was dressing for the Palazzo Fund Raiser.  It was nice.  Katy was helpful.
My dear friend Jill came along to the fund raiser.  We met a very nice couple from Bassfield who have a pipe business, the McClellans who have 5 kids (one was working the door of the fun raiser) and Virginia a dimiutive 81 yo woman dressed in red with a Jackson County Republican women's badge.  She got big hugs from both the candidates.

I did get to shake hands with Mr. Cantor, but not with Mr. Palazzo.  Mr. Cantor's speech was rousing.  I imagine the candidate the local tea-party is promoting is the reason Mr. Cantor stepped in to help Mr. Palazzo kick off the fund raising.  Primary is March 13.

When I came home Callie was here...so I saw all my children and grandchildren today, but Micah.

Did I mention today was Stephen's birthday? This fact was mostly ignored.  Micah did promise and deliver on a 3 pointer for his Dad!  It came after a steal.  MC and Loyola Won.   We'll try to do something for him special today...his present is at the office waiting.  New light for his reading chair with a lighted magnifying glass.  He's going to love it!  2/4/2012 was really a good day.
